SPARK P.E.

MURRIETA ELEMENTARY is using the SPARK P.E. Program developed at San Diego State University. The acronym SPARK stands for Sports, Participation, And Recreation for Kids. The program is divided into grades K - 2 and 3 - 5 units. During the first part of the year K - 2 units will emphasize motor skills development: running, walking, skipping, jumping, hopping, leaping, galloping, side stepping, throwing, catching, and kicking. The skills are presented as part of fun and interesting games and activities. The grades 3 - 5 units will continue to emphasize the skills taught in the K - 2 program, but in the form of more team games and activities. These include volleyball, parachute activities, and cooperative games. The focus is on skill development with no emphasis on competition.
